How absurd a movie could get can be adjudged by the story of it. Its not sure what director Nikhil Advani thought of when scripting this film as it not only ridicules basic reasoning but also it makes a mockery of the plot that he has chosen to handle. “Patiala House” deals with how a man and group of youngsters find their voice and courage to stand up in order to fulfill their dreams, goals and ambitions.

The story however is a subject of ridicule where the England Cricket Team is going through a bad patch and the selectors decide to replace the entire squad with new talents and one such talent in contention is Pargat Singh (Akshay Kumar) who is 34 years old but a fit bowler who has not played any form of cricket for the last 17 years!

Pargat Singh a.k.a Gattu has one major problem in life as his Bauji (Rishi Kapoor) has told him not to play for England due to the riots that took place years back. Enters Simran (Anushka Sharma) who provides the much needed emotional support to Gattu and pushes him to realize his dream of playing for England cricket team.

Simran along with other members in the family decide to hide things from Bauji and in the process try out all the trick in the book to conceal the reality. In the end when Bauji gets to know that Gattu has gone against his word, there is a mini collapse for him and for Gattu.

Gattu then does a U-Turn by telling the board that he wants to quit playing cricket before a world tournament final which is accepted without any objection by the England cricket board! Things get as cinematic as it can be and he decides to play again this time around clearly against the liking of Bauji.

Finally, whether Gattu and Bauji join together or do their relation remain stained is how this “Patiala House” draws to a finish. In terms of acting, Rishi Kapoor or Akshay Kumar has nothing major to display here. Anushka Sharma’s role which is so important in the movie sinks without a notable trace.

Music by Shankar-Eshaan-Loy keeps the tempo up to an extent. The story and screenplay spoils the entire show which by any standards is a dud. There is a scene in the movie which shows certain characters as “Bakra” but in reality director Nikhil Advani has made the viewers of this film the true “Bakra”.

There is Nasser Hussain, Graham Gooch, Kiren Pollard and Andrew Symonds who play supporting roles. Nasser Hussain even speaks Hindi dialogues which is a surprise for the audience. The movie has a running time of 150 minutes and is most likely to be a dead horse at the box-office.

“Patiala House” is a dull and boring film.
