Director Linguswamy had mentioned in an interview to a daily that his movie “Paiya” is a never seen before film in Tamil Cinema. His words are hard to interpret in the above context as to what does he actually mean by the term “never seen before”. The movie is the usual masala flick with a simple storyline wherein a boy meets a girl and falls in love with her and in the end they unite. Looks like director wanted to make a movie that belongs to the Road Movie genre.

The interesting fact in the movie is that it shifts to top-gear pretty immediately in the start which continues for sometime until the supposed twist takes place which brings the pace of the movie down drastically.

Shiva (Karthi) happens to be a graduate who lives in Bangalore in search of work. Immediately Charulatha (Tamannah) crosses across and its love at first sight for him.  Few scenes later when Shiva comes to the railway station to pick up his friend he again meets her and due to circumstances they start their journey to Chennai in a Car.

The plot looks simple from the outset and when the car journey is going to take not more than 5 hours (Normal Travel time between Bengaluru – Chennai by Car), the expectations for more sub-plots to develop and compliment the main plot was the order of the day. However, the man in-charge of the story director Linguswamy tweaks it a bit and instead of chennai the lead pair end up starting their journey from Bengaluru to Mumbai!

The rest of the movie deals with the pair travelling and Charulatha telling her side of story to Shiva and as expected the bad guys spot them and they chase frantically only to lose track of them. Moments before the interval another track joins in with Shiva being the subject of chase by a gang which sets the platform for a riveting second half.

In the second half Shiva reveals his story and why he is being chased by a group of villains. In the flashback Shiva picks up a fight with a Mumbai goon Bali (Milind Soman) and it is that group that wants to take revenge on him. The climax however finishes too soon and in the end the way the movie gets over clearly states that not much of thought has gone into the story nor the other way to look at it is the director after thinking too much on the plot did not know how to end the movie. Else, how on earth the movie could end in such an amateurish manner.

In terms of acting, Karthi after stellar performances in “Paruthiveeran” and “Aayirathil Oruvan” has maintained the good work in this movie also. Tamannah who was a replacement for Nayanthara at the last minute has come up with a performance which indicates that she is improving steadily to make a mark for herself in Kollywood. Milind Soman who was the dreaded villain in “Pachaikili Muthucharam” looks totally a misfit in the role of Bali.

Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is peppy which helps the pace of the movie to a certain extent. Cinematography by Madhee is a pleasure to watch. Editing by Anthony needed to be more crisper but with a sagging screenplay nothing much could have been done. Director Lingusamy post his Bheema debacle had to be more sharp in the story which however is not to be the case in this movie also.

“Paiya” a film with a brisk beginning but ends up literally limping.

Downloading Paiya Movie via Internet using torrent, direct download, Paiya movie in rapidshare, Paiya movie downloading in mega upload is a crime. Downloading Paiya Audio Mp3 is not legal in India. The Paiya Movie crew : Director Lingusamy, Paiya actor Karthi and Paiya actress Tamannah has done lot of hard work to come up with a high quality movie called Paiya.
