Amitabh Bachchan proves again and again why he is being called as the first citizen of bollywood. We have seen him don various roles for his previous movies but in this “Paa” his portrayal of the character “Auro” a 13 year old suffering from a rare ageing disorder called Pregoria is truly breathtaking. In this film the real life father and son play role reversal in reel life. The movie directed by Balki (Cheeni Kum fame) is a treat to the viewer in a different sense and this movie succeeds in bringing out the sufferings and human emotions in warranted proportions and in the end all can hope that Pregoria remains a distant history for mankind.

Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) lives with his gynecologist mother Vidya Balan and grand mother Arundhati Naag. Auro though physically old he doesn’t loose out on his mental strength and freshness. Auro remains casual, witty and is at his usual best when it matters the most. Auro once in an award winning cermony comes across MP Amol (Abhishek Bachchan). Vidya then reveals the truth behind Auro’s past and that his father is none other than the politician Amol.

Auro then succeeds in making a change in everyone’s life by bringing together his estranged parents. “Paa” is definitely a meaningful film though there can be comparisons with Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par which let the world know what dyslexia was all about. Amitabh has shed his image, height and his mannerisms to excel in this role. Abhishek Bachchan as Amol is not all that convincing but his portrayal in the scenes of the character of Auro’s dad is commendable. Vidya Balan’s tryst with fashion still continues in this movie and one can hope that it will get better in her forthcoming movies.

The background music by maestro Ilayaraja adds more value and emotions to the scenes. Balki who was walking on a very tight rope by choosing this subject and also by his selection of artists has finally pulled out a masterpiece. AB corporation has produced this movie after a long hiatus and we hope this movie remains as a stepping stone for more things to come from AB Corporation.

“Paa” worth the watch.
