Khaidi No 150 Movie Review
Megastar Chiranjeevi throws his hat in the ring as an actor after a decade with this “Khaidi No 150” and is no surprise that he wanting to play it safe chose a blockbuster hit from Tamil “Kaththi” which had Vijay in the lead and it won hearts over with its gripping screenplay. Chiranjeevi’s last release prior to this one was “Shankar Dada Zindabad” (2007) and after which he forayed into politics with the launch of his party “Praja Rajyam” in 2008.
V V Vinayak helms the megaphone for this remake which is almost 95% scene by scene adaptation from its original. There are few changes that have been made to suit the taste of Telugu audience which works well in few places and doesn’t in few. Kajal Agarwal plays the female lead in Telugu while Samantha does the same in the Tamil version and when comparison is drawn between the two stars, it is Samantha who wins hands down in terms of a solid performance.
Chiranjeevi despite the hiatus is brilliant in his acting and of special mention is the grace that he displays in the dance moves which is a treat to watch. With a running time close to 150 minutes, Chiranjeevi carries the film on his shoulders throughout. Chiranjeevi has also used this film as a platform to resurrect his sagging political career with carefully worded dialogues that has political overtures in it and his fans erupt in frenzy hearing these dialogues as they are aware as to what the dialogues actually mean.
Brahmanandam and Ali provide the comic relief and have done well. Kajal Agarwal though hasn’t much of a demanding role in the film fulfills the demand of the song sequences in an appropriate manner. The film is expected to garner good business at the box-office and thanks to a long Sankaranti season. From the scheme of things, it looks like Chiranjeevi would don the grease paint more in the days to come.
Tarun Arora who plays the baddie in this film isn’t villainous enough in comparison to how his character is being portrayed. There are other host of actors who have lent able support to the film with good conviction.
In terms of this film, it is entertaining but could have been a bit crisper in few places where the lag is being felt and apart from that director Vinayak has made sure that he delivers a super-hit for Chiranjeevi with a package of right ingredients and he getting it right to a major extent. With Chiru’s son Ram Charan producing the film, it is celebration time at Chiranjeevi household.
Devi Sri Prasad who has scored the music excels in the background score which is an important cog in the wheel. Other technical aspects are brilliant and special mention needs to be showered upon choreographers for their hard work in the song sequences.
“Khaidi No 150” – enjoyable watch and is even more entertaining if one has not seen the original version.
