Goa Movie Review
Venkat Prabhu after the stupendous success of “Chennai 600028” and “Saroja” has embarked on this fun filled package titled “GOA” with the tagline “A Venkat Prabhu Holiday”. To be honest there is lots of fun and glamour but one thing that really hampers everything is the length of the movie. The movie which runs for 3 hours lags in patches.
Venkat Prabhu has brought together his trusted cast once again with a mix of few new faces and he has joined hands with Soundarya Rajinikanth who makes her debut in kollywood as a producer with this movie.
The movie begins with a rustic touch in a village named Pannaiyarpuram where the trio in Premgi Amaran, Vaibhav Reddy and Jai are summoned in a panchayat for their mischievousness. During the panchayat when the trio is introduced to the audience it is rollicking fun. Post panchayat meeting the trio begins their journey to Madurai and later to Goa with a specific ambition in mind.
On reaching Goa they are visually treated by the bikini clad girls and as days go by they all of a sudden get introduced to Arvind Akash who hails from Tamil Nadu and is a hotelier who helps the trio by providing accommodation. Roshni (Pia Bajpai) works with the same hotel as a singer and she immediately falls for Vinayagam (Jai). Arvind Akash and Sampath (In a comic role) then help the trio for a image makeover and helps them to be the modern stylish youth.
Samikannu (Premgi Amaran) then meets Jessica (Melanie Marie) whom he had already met in Madurai during a wedding function. Jessica and Samikannu fall in love and their love story takes a separate track altogether. The love story between Roshni and Vinayagam also takes a seperate track and these two love stories take a major portion of the film to establish.
The third person in the trio Ramaraj (Vaibhav Reddy) is shown as a person without any love affair and in the melodrama between the two love pairs he almost disappears only to find out that there has been another track with him and Suhasini (Sneha).
When everyone wonders if the movie is all about the three pairs joining together and living happily, there is a twist in the tale with the characterization of Sneha which comes at the fag end of the movie which in the scheme of things is unnecessary. In fact the movie could have been a lot better without Sneha’s character which would have saved some 25 mins in the running time.
The special appearances by Prasanna, Nayanthara and Silambarasan helps the movie in whatever best way it can. With Premgi around the comedy track is well taken care of but the disappointment in terms of acting are Jai & Sneha. Pia Bajpai is convincing in her role especially in the scenes where she displays her affection towards Jai. Vaibhav Reddy’s character is loosely knit and hence nothing much to mention. Special mention needs to be given to Melanie Marie who looks completely in sync with her character.
The old timers in Vijayakumar & Chandrasekar do make an appearance in the beginning and not to mention the usual single scene cameo by director Venkat Prabhu. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja (who has been conferred with the title “Ilaya Isaignani”) compliments the movie but the irritant is the “Kangal Irundhal” song bit from Subramaniyapuram which has been used to a larger extent than needed. Editing by Praveen K.L and Srikanth N.B is of poor standard with lot of jumps in the flow.
“GOA” can be watched once for Premgi and Melanie Marie.
